90th Anniversary Commemorative Service

Actually there are events being held in and around Be’er Sheva from 26th October through to 31st October. The Society for the Heritage of WWI are the lead organisation on anything to do with the Riders' parade and re-enactment. Have a look at their site for the program and their interest in the subject as a whole, including a related conference on 1st November 2007.

90th Anniversary Commemorative Service- 31st October 2007

09:00 - Society for the Heritage of WWI Conference Opening Ceremony - at the Youth Centre, Old City of Be'er-Sheva

10:00 - Horseback Riders' Parade through the Old City Be'er-Sheva (note: there are around 60 Australians who will be on horseback, dressed in period (WWI) uniforms. The 31st October will be the last day of a three day march they will have completed on horseback following in the footsteps of the Australian Light Horse across the desert!).

11:00 - Official Commemorative Service - led by the Be'er-Sheva Municipality in cooperation with the Australian Embassy

12:00 - Official Commemorative Service - led by the Be'er-Sheva Municipality in cooperation with the Turkish Embassy

15:30 - Re-enactment of the Charge of the Light Horse (Beit Eshel to the Turkish Bridge). There will be viewing platforms close to the Bedouin Market site.

16:00 - Closing Ceremony - at the Turkish Railway Bridge, Old City of Be'er-Sheva including awarding of medals of recognition to parade riders.
